Passion for Our Patients
After 21 years at Northshore University Hospital, Suzanne Pine, a registered nurse on the stroke unit, gives credit to her first boss, Mary Hedrick.
“She was a kind person and a fair manager. Mary looked out for her staff and made sure she saw every patient on the unit – every day,” says Suzanne.
Suzanne followed in the footsteps of her first boss and carried her compassion even one step further.
“I’ve cared for so many patients over the years, and my experiences never just stopped at the door. I’ve visited patients in nursing homes after discharge, brought them clothes from my own closet so they didn’t have to leave here in a gown, I even shared own my children when I knew their own families may be distant. Being Truly Compassionate doesn’t stop with the medical care we provide, it just starts there.”
Suzanne continues to meet friends along the way as she enters into here second decade at Northwell Health.
“I am always growing here. I started as Northshore with my ASN, then obtained my BSN, and now I am in school for my MSN. My advice to others is to use your knowledge and always remember to show compassion – not just with the patients but with their family members too.”
Say congrats to Suzanne for going that extra mile 21 years in a row!
Congratulations, Suzanne!
